Children Participating in The Mitten

Learning Vocabulary and How to Retell a Story:


We began by watching a video on the Smartboard in which the author Jan Brett read The Mitten aloud.

As the story was read aloud, the children held up the character or the vocabulary word which they were given prior to the reading.  Each vocabulary word was defined prior to the reading of The Mitten.





















Upon Completing the read-alouds, the students then colored and cut out their own pictures of the story's characters, along with a giant paper mitten and proceeded to record themselves re-telling The Mitten into their iPad on their bookcreator app.  The children were encouraged to use the vocabulary and names of the characters in their retell.
